Soaking The Bun & Other Interesting Tidbits

Filed under: Baseball, Life — Bill @ 8:05 am

– Happy Birthday Mom!

– Tomorrow is the much anticipated 2007 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island.  At high noon (est.) ESPN will televise the battle between Takeru Kobayashi of Japan and Joey Chestnut of San Jose, California.  Last year Kobayashi ate 53.75 hot dogs (& buns) in only 12 minutes to clinch his 6th consecutive title.. His young rival wasn’t far behind, and just recently Chestnut broke Kobayashi’s record.  There are rumors swirling that Kobayashi is suffering from arthritis in his jaw.  Is it a ploy?  The battle lines have been drawn, tune in tomorrow & bring relish!

– 07/07/07 is this Saturday.  Prince is marking the occasion to introduce his new unisex perfume.  He will take 7% of the profits and donate it to his seven favorite charities.  Any guess what Prince’s favorite number is?  (He is an odd little man with a large amount of talent)

– 350 wins for the Rocket Roger Clemens, it’s a mind boggling stat if you think about it. 20 wins a year for 17.5 seasons, amazing.  Ironically the last time this achievement was accomplished it was Warren Spahn on September 29, 1963.  Spahn’s catcher that day was Joe Torre.

– Here come the Cubs!  They have won 9 out of 10 and are now one game over .500 just 6.5 behind Milwaukee. Look out for them in the 2nd half.

– Today’s pitching matchup is Barry Zito vs. Aaron Harang, and oddly enough neither are pitching for the A’s.  Speaking of former A’s pitchers who are doing well, how did Jeremy Bonderman not make the All Star team?  (just think A’s fans, we traded Bonderman & Carlos Pena for Ted Lilly)

– See what happens when you joke about Barry Bonds breaking his hip?  Karma reaches out and bites you in the butt.  It was announced that A’s reliever Justin Duchscherer will be having season ending surgery on his hip.

– That’s all folks!
