NHRA Countdown To The Championship Update

The grueling six weekends in a row NHRA schedule finds itself in Denver today. Including today there are only four more races left to qualify for the Top 8 positions, and a shot at claiming the NHRA Powerade Championship.

Last weekend In Bristol John Force came out of hibernation and finally won a race. Force currently sits in the #13 spot 63 pts. behind #8 Jack Beckman. Ironically his daughter Ashley is in the #9 spot just 20 points behind Beckman. Cruz Pedregon was the biggest “mover” in Funny Car, he jumped 3 spots into the #7 position.

In Top Fuel Melanie Troxel remains in the precarious #8 spot just 2 pts. ahead of Whit “Blazemore”, and 12 pts. ahead of Cory Mac. After last seasons devastating loss I find myself rooting for Doug Kalitta. Add in the recent passing of his dad and now I REALLY am pulling for Dougie. He moved up one spot to #10, just 31 pts. behind Melanie.

In Pro Stock the only thing that seems to matter are the top four cars (Anderson, Jeg Coughlin, Connolly, & Line), all the rest seem to be battling for fifth. V. Gaines dropped 2 spots to #8, Richie Stevens is 28 pts. behind him, and W. J. is 45 pts. back at #10.

With four races left (16 rounds of racing) there are a total of 552 points left that a racer could earn, but only 392 if you don’t include points for National Records. The clock is ticking, it’s go time.
