Back In The Saddle Again

Filed under: NFL, NHRA — Bill @ 11:26 pm

It’s difficult to write a blog when you don’t have a computer. You tend to take this machine for granted, then all of a sudden it’s gone and you realize how much it has become a part of your daily life. Fortunately for me my Mr. Computy Wizard was able to weave his magic and all appears to be back to normal.

So where do I begin….

It is without a doubt an exciting time of year for us sports fans. We have the baseball pennant races to watch, college football, it’s week #2 in the NFL, the NHRA season is down to the wire, there is also Nascar for those who enjoy turning left, Tiger Woods is shooting 28 on the front 9 (if you have ever golfed think about that score for a minute), and don’t forget the FIFA Women’s World Cup (I had to make sure you were paying attention!). Tomorrow is Sunday and thank God for my dvr because there isn’t enough hours in the day to watch everything.

Can we start a petition here to space out all these great sporting events during the week so we can properly appreciate them? It’s too much for one Sunday!

How the heck am I supposed to keep up with it all, bbq our dinner, keep my bride happy, walk the dog, and pay attention to friends who happen to drop in? (I’ve already decided the friends will just have to wait)

I think of those incredibly boring sports weekends in February and wish I could freeze some of this excitement only to thaw them out later when they can be properly enjoyed.

Sporting Notes Of Interest:

– We found out this week that the Patriots were cheating. Not that cheating in sports is unfounded, but hearing this about the red, white, & blue Patriots makes me laugh. Just another reason to dislike them. Tuck you Patriot fans!

– It took all of one Monday night to see how an official can determine the outcome of an NFL game. Some striped wearing a-hole decided that the Ravens TE Todd Heap was guilty of offensive pass interference, a ridiculous call that my grandmother could have made correctly, but she didn’t & neither did the ref, so the Ravens lose on Monday night (six turnovers helped).

– 5 new NFL QB’s this weekend: Thru injury or ineptitude five starting NFL QB’s went from the penthouse to the outhouse in seven short days. Baltimore, Cleveland, NY Giants, NY Jets, & Oakland will all have new signal callers come Sunday. Rumors are that Eli Manning may try to play, but if the Giants are smart they will protect “the franchise” from himself. He may wish to play, but his shoulder needs to rest (the answer to the question “how stupid are the NY Giants” will shortly be answered).

– Army dumps Angel & Antron. Days before Congress decides the fate of the military’s short term budget the Army dumped their ’08 commitment to the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle team of Angel Sampey & Antron Brown.. Sucks for them, but unfortunately it’s the nature of the biz.

– Gary Scelzi to return in ’08. Hold off on the gold watch, Scelzi isn’t retiring just yet. Pro Stock mogul Ken Black stepped up and announced that he would make sure that NHRA Funny Car driver Gary Scelzi could fly to all of next years NHRA events in his private plane. So rather than retiring to spend time on his families successful trucking business, now Scelzi can do both.

It’s nice to be writing again….

  1. Speaking of cheating, Coach Billick has accused the Jets of playing less than fairly. Here’s a link to the article:
