"Holy Toledo!"

There is a reason why I haven’t posted here in a few days, and it’s because, frankly, words have been hard to come by. As you read this post, perhaps you will understand.

This past week has been a series of emotional rollercoasters.

Sunday the Raiders finally ended their 11 game losing streak (that dated back to October 29, 2006), a statement win that will carry them forward throughout this season with a greater level of confidence. On this same Sunday I watched John Force damn near get killed in a horrible 300 m.p.h. top end accident.

Based on what I saw it had nothing to do with Kenny Bernstein hitting the timing lights, it was more likely a tire failure that blew the back half of the car off, sending John upside down into the guardrail. Force sustained a broken left ankle, a severely dislocated wrist, broken fingers, & a nasty knee injury. Sometimes we forget how unforgiving this sport can be. On Sunday we almost lost a hero.

Last Thursday my wife & I planned on celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. I’m a lucky guy, we have a great life and we love each other. It was supposed to be a great day. All plans were quickly squelched when we got the horrible news that our 6 yr. old cousin Lewis was diagnosed with lymphoma. News such as this takes your emotional high down to a screeching halt.

Little Lewis is resting comfortably at UCSF Children’s Hospital, but is in for the fight of his life. His wonderful parents Lydia & Andy have been forced into “what doctors describe as a 2 year battle.”

As a parent I can’t put into words the heartbreak I feel for them. All I can do is support them and offer anything I have to give.

It’s been an emotional week.
