"Holy Toledo!"

What’s Holy In The World Of Toledo?

Filed under: Baseball, NFL, NHRA, Oakland A's, Oakland Raiders, Vintage Sports Video — Bill @ 12:06 pm

Apologies for not posting in awhile, I’ve been busy adding to my vintage sports video collection. Picked up a beautiful copy of the first Raiders game I ever attended, 1976 week 13 Cincinnati at Oakland on MNF. No idea where it originated from but the darn thing looks like it was recorded yesterday, amazing quality. Also picked up the “new” versions of the 1973 & 1974 AFC Championship games. Not great results from a Raider perspective but nice quality recordings.

In other sports news:
Damn NFL strike, or more accurately “the lockout” threatens summer camp, preseason & potentially the regular season. Now that the courts are involved it could get ugly. I have a backup plan if the season is delayed, every Sunday I’ll just pop in a dvd of a great game from the past.

Sad news about Buster Posey, even worse news about Gary Carter (brain cancer). We are all day to day.

The A’s are in the midst of a 7 game losing streak while the Giants seem to find a way to just keep winning. Funny how good pitching will do that. What’s gotten into the Arizona Diamondbacks? On fire, much like their state (unfortunately).

In Racing News:
What a heart-breaker for rookie JR. Hildebrand at this year’s Indy 500. He almost slid across the yard of bricks to win it but came up just a bit short. Amazing finish, felt bad for the kid from Sausalito, CA. Those Indy car drivers have my respect, imagine heading into a turn at 232 m.p.h…

It looks like Carl Edwards will make a serious run at Jimmy Johnson this season. Kyle Bush is in the hunt so long as he can avoid his WWF antics.

IN NHRA news the western swing is coming, get your tickets fans. I’ll be in Sonoma Friday night for qualifying. Want to experience something amazing? Try standing in the tunnel under the track as a 300 m.p.h. ground-pounder thumps over your head!

Anyone remember funny car driver Tim Grose?
He recently emailed me and he has been sharing interesting stories about drag racing in the ’70’s & ’80’s. Nice guy. I’ll share the stories when he gives me the go-ahead.

Vintage sports video news:
Aside from the new games I also am still trying to find some of the AFC & NFC Championship games missing from my collection. For obvious reason I, as a Raider fan, I didn’t record any of the Championship games from the New England Patriots era. Ick!

Working on something that could results in a rae copy of the 1972 ALCS A’s vs Tigers game. Will keep you posted.

Through a fellow collector I have the ear of former Nebraska & Raiders QB Dave Humm. If you have any stories to share or games involving “the Hummer” feel free to pass them along.

That’s about it for now. Email me if you need an updated copy of my game or race list.

Go fast or go home!
Bill

PS- I was going to post a picture of a recent T-bone steal I recently barbecued so I could say that I posted a picture of my meat on the Internet!
