NFL Update: Kolb Traded, Dolphins, Titans, Patriots, 49ers & Raiders In The News

Cardinals Pull Trigger On Kolb
The most talked about deal in the NFL has actually occurred. The Philadelphia Eagles traded QB Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals for CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie & a 2nd round draft pick. Is Kolb worth it? He was 3-7 as a starter for the Eagles but he did have one good game. Reminds me of the Scott Mitchell story, anyone remember him? The Cardinals agree to extend Kolb’s contract 5 years for $63 million of which $22 million is guaranteed. I wish the best for Kolb & the Cardinals but let’s just say I have my doubts.

Bush Agrees To Contract, Trade Completed
The Miami Dolphins have reached a contract agreement with RB Reggie Bush thus finalizing the late night trade with the New Orleans Saints. Miami had been looking at NY Giants free agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw to fill the hole vacated by Ronnie Brown & Ricky Williams who are both free agents. The Saints would have liked to keep Bush provided that he agree to restructure his contract for cap considerations. Once Bush & his agent refused the Saints started shopping Bush. Losing such a high quality running back isn’t easy however the Saints did have an ace in the hole, last April they drafted Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram from Alabama. In exchange for Bush the Saints will acquire safety Jonathon Amaya as part of the deal.

Young To Be Released Soon
Reports out of Tennessee are saying that the Titans have been unable to trade QB Vince Young and as a result they are about to release him. On paper Young is the opposite of Kevin Kolb, a proven winner in the NFL. Unfortunately for the former Texas University star he has had way too many mental meltdowns and his maturity level is a serious question. Some NFL team will take a chance on Vince Young, he simply has too much talent to remain unemployed.

Haynesworth A Patriot?
The man who gave Mike “The Rat” Shanahan fits last season is gone, sent packing to New England. Troublemaker Albert Haynesworth was traded by the Redskins for a box of racks (5th round in ’13).

49ers Release Two, Sign One
One time high priced free agent CB Nate Clements will be released despite conflicting reports. Also being released is former #1 overall pick David Carr. For Carr this may likely be the end of a disappointing NFL career. At the opposite end of the spectrum much heralded QB Colin Kaepernick was signed today. Even though he is projected to be the 49ers #2 QB don’t be surprised if he wins the starting job.

The Oakland Raiders have signed their top draft pick Stefen Wisniewski today. The nephew of former Raider Steve Wisniewski was drafted in the 2nd round from Penn St. and is projected to be the starter at center.

Of the eight 2011 draft picks only one remains unsigned, tackle Joseph Barksdale, and he is expected to sign later today.

2011 Raider Draft Picks:
2nd Round Stefen Wisniewski C Penn St.
3rd Round: Demarcus Van Dyke CB Miami
3rd Round Joseph Barksdale OT LSU
4th Round Chimdi Chekwa DB Ohio St.
4th Round Taiwan Jones RB Easter Washington
5th Round Denarius Moore WR Tennessee
6th Round Richard Gordon TE Miami
7th Round David Ausberry WR USC

It sure is nice to have football back…
