Raiders Respond To Gruden Rumors

An e-mail from Raiders director media relations Zak Gilbert on the “rumor” that Jon Gruden could be rejoining the Raiders . . .

Members of the media: There are two people on this planet that have the ability to make talks happen between Jon Gruden and the Raiders, with regard to him allegedly taking over the football operations, and/or the position of head coach. Each of those individuals, owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie, wanted me to communicate that this rumor has no validity whatsoever. And for the record, I’m personally disgusted that Hub Arkush would spread such an untruth on the day our head coach, Dennis Allen, had to determine with his mom, his brother and sister, whether to take his dad off life support or wait and hope that he would regain consciousness. Dennis didn’t have an opportunity to say goodbye to his dad, but he did have an opportunity to take a phone call regarding Hub’s story.

(From Bill: First my thoughts & prayers go out to the Allen family at this difficult time. Second, Allenis under contract for three more years following this season, the last thing the Raiders need is another head coach, even if it’s Jon Gruden. What they need is stability, better players, and lots of draft picks. Bill Walsh won 2 games in his first season as a head coach, Jimmy Johnson won 8 games total in his first two years. I’m not saying Allen is as good as either of those two men, but the point is that building a team from the bottom takes time. Don’t let last season’s 8 wins fool you, because of crippling salary cap issues this year’s team is a mere shadow of the 2011 squad. Have patience, faith, and understanding that the Raider organization is on the right path to future success.)

NOTE: Set your DVR for next week, the best ongoing documentary series is “A Football Life” shown on the NFL Network. Next Wednesday might be of particular interest to Raiders fans, the subject is Marcus Allen.

See you at the game Thursday night!

    • Yes I did go to the game, we had a very enjoyable evening, except for the final score. And Bibby, as always I recorded the game, will put it on dvd later today. If you ever go to a Raiders game I recommend Francesco’s Restaurant for your pregame meal, excellent Italian food. I will also be recording the Marcus Allen “A Football Life” as well as tonight’s “30 For 30” on Bo Jackson.
