Rain Delay Stories…

Filed under: Baseball, Oakland A's — Bill @ 2:08 pm

While we wait for today’s A’s-Twins game to get started due to a rain delay, the old guys always throw out their interesting rain delay stories. Here is one I thought you might like…

By the way if the A’s win today & the Rangers lose, the A’s will win the American League West for the 2nd consecutive year. Last year at this time they trailed Texas by 4 games with only 8 to play. Also of equal importance is that the A’s lead Detroit by 1 game in the battle for the #2 seed in the AL, & trail Boston by 2 1/2 for the #1 seed.

When Jack McKeon was managing the Omaha minor league team he once ordered the field to be watered down so his team wouldn’t have to face this young phenom named Vida Blue. While no rain occurred the field was so wet the game was postponed. MLB later put in a rule that anyone caught watering down a field would be suspended for life. This moment of life later made it to film in the movie Bull Durham.
